Documents required for filing Income Tax Return

Are you confused about which documents are required while filing your ITR? Here you will get an illustrative list of the documents required.


Before starting, let me remind you that the due date for filing Income tax return for non-audit cases is 31-07.

General:


1. PAN Card, Aadhar card

2. Mobile number, email ID registered with Aadhar and tax portal

3. Bank statements (existing + discontinued) for entire financial year


Personal Investments and Insurances:


4. FD receipts and Interest certificates

5. Investments in Shares, Mutual funds, Crypto, etc.

  • Statement of PnL for realized gains

  • Holding statement as on the year end (at cost)

6. NSC, PPF, Post office Deposits, MIS etc and other saving plans made till date.

7. All Insurance (Life + Health + Term) Premium receipts for the financial year


Business related:


8. Books of Accounts (If any)

9. Copy of last prepared and current year income tax computation and balance sheet

10. Login credentials of

  • Income Tax

  • GST (if available)

  • TDS-TRACES (if available)

Others:


11. Share of profits arising from partnership firm, AoP or BOI.

12. Salary Slips, Form 16 (if employed)

13. Details of Investment made in any closely held company or any present directorship.

14. Details of any House property owned (Serving rental Income), even for Foreign Assets

15. Acquisition of Fixed Asset during the year (Personal as well as Business), if any

  • Land and Buildings

  • Jewelleries

  • Motor vehicle

  • Electronics, etc.

16. Loan statement of running loan or newly taken during the year

  • Personal loan

  • House loan

  • Education Loan, etc.

17. Details of any 2-wheeler or 4-wheeler purchased during the year and related vehicle loan (if any)

18. Details of any other assets purchased in own name during the year.

19. Details of any other liabilities incurred during the year

  • Credit card

  • EMI Statement, etc.

20. Donation Receipts and any other relevant document.


The above is an inclusive list, more documents maybe required on case-to-case basis.
